Title: BKF files
Post by: djk on December 29, 2006, 12:23:59 PM
It doesn't recognize correctly WindowsXP Backup Utility Backup Set files (.bkf files (http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=bkf)).
It shows: .cel - Autodesk FLIC Image File.

Yes, the definition for .BKF files can be made better.
If you have some BKF files at hand, you can refine it with TrIDScan (http://mark0.net/soft-tridscan-e.html) and then send it to me, and I'll update the db. I too have a newer BKF def ready for the next update (probably today).

Thanks,
Bye!

Thanks, I will try to use TrIDScan a bit later.
The updated (today) db still show wrong description for my files.

If you can refine a bit the def analyzing some additional BKF it will be perfect.
I had only some of them at hand, and the more and more varied the sample set, the better.

Bye!

And TrID has some serious problems with PE files - never knows if it's exe, dll or scr :(

TrID is a generic file identifier, and designed to have an easy-to-update DB of file formats. To discern the subtles differences about specific file formats, other tools exist. For example, for executables PEiD (http://www.secretashell.com/codomain/peid) is probably the best.
