Lost ability to ID Wise installer .exe?
« on: March 05, 2008, 03:37:01 AM »
Hi:

Testing this package, I found that the most recent ID file (today) has lost the ability to identify a Wise installer .exe (or at least the one I identified).  An earlier ID files (2007 sometime?) identified the Wise package with 80% rating.  The current set doesn't identify it at all.

Hope this is helpful.  Very cool package.

Notes following:

5:49 PM 3/4/2008 lsz   TrID new ID files are worse on Wise installer
F:\LSZ\TrID

Replaced the TrIDDefs.TRD that came with Universal Extractor (UniExtract) with the most current version from the source website (got them today).  Result in identifying a Wise installation .exe is actually worse than the old one.  The old one gave it a 80.2% rating as Wise Installer Executable, this new version didn't even recognize it as a Wise executable.

Thanks for the detailed feedback.
I just quickly checked and I can't find a TrID's definition related to Wise Installer executable on my library.
It may be the case that I have removed it from the official def list for some reasons (included an accidental delete, maybe), or maybe it was a custom def created by UniExtract author.

I will give a deeper look and let you know.

Thanks,
Bye!

Mark0:

Glad to hear that (though of course disappointed that you have to go through this extra trouble).

Don't worry, there's absolutely no problem!
Meanwhile, I just checked and can confirm that the Wise Inst. included with the UniExtract package was created by Jared. So, from the "base/standard" TrID's def library available from my site, it periodically derive a custom version especially tailored for his tool.

Anyway, I tried to create a new def for that filetype too; you'll find it in the next update (probably within a day at max). If you'll find that the new def fail to recognize some Wise EXEs you have, you can download the package with the XML defs and refine it. If you then send it back to me I'll make sure to update the public db with it.

Thanks,
Bye!
