It doesn't recognize correctly WindowsXP Backup Utility Backup Set files (
.bkf files
).
It shows: .cel - Autodesk FLIC Image File.

Yes, the definition for .BKF files can be made better.
If you have some BKF files at hand, you can refine it with
TrIDScan
and then send it to me, and I'll update the db. I too have a newer BKF def ready for the next update (probably today).

Thanks, I will try to use TrIDScan a bit later.
The updated (today) db still show wrong description for my files.

If you can refine a bit the def analyzing some additional BKF it will be perfect.
I had only some of them at hand, and the more and more varied the sample set, the better.

And TrID has some serious problems with PE files - never knows if it's exe, dll or scr

TrID is a generic file identifier, and designed to have an easy-to-update DB of file formats. To discern the subtles differences about specific file formats, other tools exist. For example, for executables
PEiD
is probably the best.
