updated fig.trid.xml for "FIG vector drawing"
« on: February 26, 2022, 02:47:48 PM »
Hello trid users,

some days ago i recompiled lilo boot loader source. In doc sub directory are
files with FIG name extension.

When i run TrID on such examples these are described as "FIG vector drawing"
by fig.trid.xml (see appended output/trid-v-old.txt).

For comparison reason i check these examples by file command utility.  When
running file command (version 5.41) on such examples some like map.fig are
described correctly as "FIG image text", but some are like bootloader.fig
described as "data" (See appended output/file-5.41.txt).

The example thermostat.fig is part of xfig package. The example
COM-0-Modem-Stecker.fig was created by myself long time in the past.
So i know these examples are valid. So the non detection of lilo example
bootloader.fig is not an accident. So this file command version is buggy
here and TrID description is correct.

But TrID reports as Related URL a link like:
   http://duke.usask.ca/~macphed/soft/fig/

Unfortunately this site does not exist any more. So page about Xfig on
Wikipedia can be used, but there nothing about file format is written.
So i choose page about Fig on file formats archive team web site. That is
now expressed by line like:
   <RefURL>http://fileformats.archiveteam.org/wiki/Fig</RefURL>

Because FIG examples are just plain text files, most of them are described
with mime type text/plain by file command (see appended
output/file-i-5.41.txt)
But according to FreeDesktop.org shared MIME database instead of generic
mime type like text/plain these get their own user defined one
image/x-xfig. That information can be found for example on web site
reposcope.com. That is now expressed by line like:
   <Mime>image/x-xfig</Mime>

With the new TrID definition all of my inspected FIG examples are still
described correctly as "FIG vector drawing" but with more accurate
information (see appended output/trid-v-new.txt).

TrID definitions, some examples and output are stored in archive
fig.zip.

With best wishes
Jörg Jenderek
