Hello trid users,
some day ago the Hewlett-Packard printer of my friend does not work any more
on Windows 10. So i downloaded from HP site all document files and
software. The printer is an HP ENVY 6000. Just for interest i extract the
packages. Some files inside has name extension CHM.
So i run trid utility on these CHM examples. All are described correctly as
"Windows HELP File" by chm.trid.xml dated at 24 January 2007. But neither a
mime type nor a related URL is listed (See appended output/trid-v-old.txt).
For comparison reason i also run file command (newest version 5.43) on such
samples. Here these are described as "MS Windows HtmlHelp Data" (See
appended output/file-5.43.txt). With -i option is shows an official
registered mime type (See appended output/file-i-5.43.txt).
For comparison reason i also run the file format identification utility
DROID ( See
https://sourceforge.net/projects/droid/). Here all samples are
described "Microsoft Compiled HTML Help" by PUID fmt/634 with mime type
application/vnd.ms-htmlhelp.
So the correct mime type is now expressed in updated chm.trid.xml by line
like:
<Mime>application/vnd.ms-htmlhelp</Mime>
Information about CHM files can be found on file formats archive team web
site or Wikipedia. So i choose the first one. That is now expressed by line
like:
<RefURL>
http://fileformats.archiveteam.org/wiki/CHM</RefURL>
With the updated trid definition now my CHM examples are still described but
additional information is now shown (see appended
output/trid-v-news.txt). TrID definition and output are stored in archive
chm_1025.zip. I hope that my updated definition can be used in future
version of triddefs.
With best wishes
