Identified as MPEG, named as .dat
« on: November 07, 2006, 10:41:47 PM »
???   TrID has identified a series of files as MPEG, in its run.  But it has named these as .dat files.  I just caught this because a very large video, which I could not save, was found in the browser cache and I guessed it was the video I wanted by its size.   But when I ran TrID, it added the .dat extension.  Looking at the run window, I see that the program identified the file as a MPEG video file.

Why did it add the .dat extension then?

Right, somehow thewrong extension slipped in the <ext> tag of the video-mpeg.trid.xml def.
I have updated the def, and it will be included in the next update of the DB (within a couple of days max, probably sooner).

Many thanks for noticing & reporting that!
Bye!
